Al Michalowski
Performance Coach
Al has been a seasonal employee at the Y since 2018. He attends Group Ex classes regularly at the facilities. He played baseball, basketball, hockey, and 16” softball. Baseball, however, is his passion. He played Division 1 ball at Coastal Carolina while graduating with Honors. When his playing days were over, he became a travel softball coach for his three daughters. In 2017, he opened a baseball and softball training facility called D-BAT in Columbia, SC. He enjoys sharing his passion for sports by training young athletes. His positive approach makes kids want to get better.

Balance is the key to life. Committing to various workouts helps me to become a well-rounded athlete both in mind and body.

Jessica Rangel

Jessica began her YMCA career in 2007 in Columbus, OH after the birth of her first child. She had taken time off as a college Spanish professor to be at home with her daughter when she discovered a YMCA close to her home. Jessica has been at the B.R. Ryall YMCA since 2021 and loves working for the Y and being immersed in the community.

Each individual is unique and has different goals. I work with a variety of clients, individuals with special needs, new parents, active older adults and Ironman® athletes.

Charles Herring
Performance Coach
Charles brings over 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, specializing in a variety of formats including bootcamps, cycling, TRX, and high-intensity training. As a retired police officer with 27 years of service, Charles began offering part-time personal training during the latter part of his law enforcement career. Following his retirement, Charles pursued his passion for health and wellness by becoming a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Throughout his fitness career, he has earned numerous certifications from prestigious organizations such as ACE, AFAA, WITS, Cooper Institute, ACSM, and Les Mills. Additionally, Charles is a certified CPR instructor for both the American Heart Association and the Red Cross.

Workout Motivation:
While I provide encouragement and the necessary tools, I like to see my clients using themselves as motivation. An increase in speed, number of reps, time, etc., for any given exercise is measurable proof that they are improving. For most people, that’s the best form of motivation.
Jaden Ferlita
Personal Trainer and Sports Performance Coach
Jaden started his strength training journey at a young age, lifting with his father and developing a passion for athletic performance. By high school, he was already researching exercise programming and helping teammates improve their training. Jaden played college football at Wheaton College as a defensive lineman, where he set the school record for the clean at 395 lbs. He has since dedicated his career to building stronger athletes and individuals, both physically and mentally. Jaden aims to inspire clients to push their limits in the gym and in life.

Strength training should translate beyond the gym. Whether you’re an athlete looking to dominate your sport or someone wanting to build resilience in life, my goal is to help you get stronger for everything you do. I focus on exercise variability, empowering clients to understand their training, and promoting a long-term commitment to growth—one rep at a time.

Jump Start utilizes the most up-to-date research to build up an athlete’s foundation, improve coordination and self-confidence. Certified Parisi Performance Coaches teach signature speed and strength methods in a fun and friendly environment. This ensures the athletes are engaged and motivated to give 100%. The Jump Start program is a must for any child who wants to develop an athletic foundation of skills that will help them get faster and stronger to rise above the competition.

Total Performance
Total Performance utilizes the most up-to-date research on safe athlete training techniques and injury prevention as its foundation. This program uses our signature speed and strength training methods and cutting-edge coaching techniques from certified Parisi Performance Coaches to produce maximum improvements in athletic performance. At this level, programming is broken down into an individual focus per session; linear speed, acceleration and deceleration, change of direction and strength. This program builds on an athlete’s physical foundation and refines their skills in order for them to maximize their strength, aerobic and/or sport specific training.

Total Performance Strength
Total Performance Strength provides an introduction of strength training concepts with an emphasis on proper form, movement patterns, bodyweight resistance training, progressive programming and injury prevention. This program develops the foundation for an athlete’s relative strength, while teaching optimal body mechanics in a safe, fun environment.

Elite Performance
This program is for high school athletes between 14-18 years of age who possess a solid athletic foundation and are likely playing at a varsity/high level. This program focuses on the regression and progression of our signature speed-training methods. As the foundation of speed and strength training become second nature to an athlete, they are ready for more challenging applications. Performance Coaches tailor many of the training applications in Elite Performance sessions to an athlete’s sport and position. Elite athletes can expect a more comprehensive training prescription during all classes. As athletes communicate with our coaching staff we are able to design speed and strength programs to address areas of need. At this level, coaches also expect athletes to be ready to enhance their athletic IQ by grasping the training techniques. Athletes will also have access to Train Heroic software, which will help them to track and maximize their gains.
